Dr. Kollek is an award winning Emergency Physician, an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Section of Emergency Medicine at McMaster University, Chair of the CAEP Disaster Committee and past Executive Director of the Centre for Excellence in Emergency Preparedness.

 

His research papers and presentations have spanned many disaster related topics such as terrorism and CBRN readiness. He has chaired the National Scientific Assembly of the Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians in 2002, was a session chair at the 2nd World Congress on CBR Terrorism the following year and the chair of the Disaster Track at the International Federation of Emergency Medicine conference in Halifax in 2006. He is co-author and editor of the textbook “Emergency Preparedness for Health Care Facilities”.

 

He also has served as Emergency Department Chief and Program Director in both Hamilton & Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.

 

In addition to teaching awards he and his colleagues of the Centre for Excellence in Emergency Preparedness also received a Humanitarian Award from the International Federation of Emergency Medicine in 2006 for their work to improve Canadian disaster preparedness. 

 

Prior to his career in Medicine he was a combat officer in the Israeli Defence Forces and, having trained with Second City in Toronto, he now he dabbles in improvisational theatre.

Le Dr Kollek est un médecin médical d'urgence, un professeur clinicien adjoint à la Section de médecine d'urgence à l'Université McMaster, président du comité des catastrophes de l’ACMU et ancien directeur exécutif du Centre for Excellence in Emergency Preparedness (CEEP).

 

Ses travaux de recherche et ses présentations ont porté sur de nombreux sujets liés aux catastrophes telles que le terrorisme et la préparation au CBRN. Il a présidé l'Assemblée scientifique nationale de l'Association Canadienne des Médecins d'Urgence en 2002, a été président de la session au 2e Congrès mondial sur le terrorisme CBR l'année suivante et le président de la piste catastrophe dans la Conférence internationale de la Médecine d'Urgence à Halifax en 2006. Il est co-auteur et rédacteur en chef du livre «Préparation aux situations d'urgence pour les établissements de soins de santé».

 

Il a également occupé les fonctions de chef de département d'urgence et de directeur de programme à Hamilton et Kitchener-Waterloo, en Ontario.

 

En plus de prix pour enseignement, il et ses collègues du CEEP ont également reçu un prix humanitaire de la Fédération Internationale de la Médecine d'Urgence en 2006 pour leur travail visant à améliorer la préparation aux catastrophes au Canada.

 

Avant sa carrière en Médecine, il était officier de combat dans les forces de défense Israéliennes et, ayant entrainé a «Second City» a Toronto, maintenant il se mêle au théâtre d'improvisation.
